Wars for God

gordon 4Just about all the wars in the world today are, in one form or the other, wars for God. In the same breath, just about all acts of terrorism are connected to a war for God. The world is now seeing conflicts in just about every arena and nearly all of these conflicts stem from differencesthat groups have over their respective gods. The attack on the publication house in France, which has frightened the French and upset them all, was by a group of Muslim sympathizers who felt the publishing house had disrespected the Prophet Mohammed. The men involved went to war for their god and the video footage showed that they were all prepared to die, that is to say, they were prepared to make the supreme sacrifice for their gods.  Nigeria is being torn apart by Boko Haram which is a group of extremely violent pro-Muslims.  They are waging a campaign against non-Muslim who, to them, are infidels and are unworthy of being allowed to live because they do not support their gods.Boko Haram is pursuing a policy of doing any and every thing against non-believers, all in an effort to advance the spread of their religion and to extol their gods over the rest of Nigeria as well as part of Chad, Cameroon and Niger.Western countries are now faced with a serious challenge in that several of the religious warriors waging wars all over the world for their gods were born in those countries and were radicalized while living in western democracies.

The security forces in Belgium were recently involved in violent confrontation with a group of alleged Jihadists who, the security forces, said were planning violent attacks.

TRINIDAD

The fight for god is ripping Syria and Iraq apart. The recently emerging Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ISIS is comprised of religious warriors from all over the world.  It is said that there are persons from Trinidad who are now in Syria waging war on behalf of ISIS.We, in Jamaica, should never relax our guard and assume that persons involved in religious wars will not end up in our country. The religious wars being waged are all grounded in intolerance. It is the refusal of one set of believers to tolerate the right of others to a religion of their choice.  However, we must not forget that there are denominations and sects in the various religions and each gives its own interpretation to what is right and to what they consider is the proper way to practice their religion. It is the same situation in Christianity where there are several denominations all claiming to be practicing Christianity the correct way, thus inferring that other denominations are wrong.Jamaica has so far been spared the wrath of violent religious wars. The competition among the various denominations and religions is verbal and no more. Let us hope that we, Jamaicans, will continue to fight for gods verbally and not resort to the violence that is affecting the rest of the world.
