A handyman, who was wanted by the St Ann police in relation to the abduction of a nine-year-old girl in 2014, was remanded into custody when he appeared before the St Ann Parish Court on Wednesday, February 1.
The man is 49-year-old Donald Kington, alias ‘Parson’ or ‘Rugu’. Kington was charged on Saturday, January 28 with rape, abduction and burglary.
Kington was captured in Moneague, St Ann on Tuesday, January 17 after he had been hiding from the police for three years.
Kington looked nothing like a police sketch of him that was released in 2014. He was dark skin, slim built and very thin. He appeared much older than the sketch that was provided then.
The courtroom was cleared and the case was held in camera before parish judge Peter Wilson.
Kington is to return to court on March 9.
Reports are that he went to a house in Warrick Mount in Great Pond, Ocho Rios on the morning of February 6, 2014 and abducted the nine-year-old child.
Kington reportedly took the child to his house in Exchange, where he lived alone.
The girl wandered from the house and was seen by residents.
However, Kington was never held and has been avoiding the police since.
He was held in Moneague, St. Ann by the police on Tuesday, January 17 and following an identification parade on Friday, January 27, Kington was pointed out and he was charged the following day.
