St James Man Suspected In Ochi Shooting
One of two men listed as wanted by the St. Ann Police has been charged.
He is 29-year-old Javon Simpson, a lifeguard of Salt Spring, Montego Bay, St. James.
Simpson and another man Kemar Matthews otherwise called ‘Bitta’ or ‘Bibi’ were listed as wanted by the St QAnn’s Bay police on Wednesday, Sept 20, and asked to turn themselves in the same day. It’s not known if Matthews turned himself in.
Police say Simpson turned himself in and was charged in relation to an incident that occurred on Middle Street, Exchange, Ocho Rios in the parish on Wednesday, July 5.
.Simpson was charged with wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
According to the police, reports are that at about 9:30 p.m. Simpson and a group of men were travelling in a Toyota Axio motor car along the roadway when they stopped where a man was. Simpson then alighted from the motor vehicle and fired several shots hitting the man several times.
The police were alerted and the man was taken to hospital for treatment. During the investigation, Simpson was listed as wanted—he subsequently handed himself in to the police on Wednesday, September 20 after his name was published.
He was charged after he underwent a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.
Police say they are seeking his accomplices.
