Almost six years after a man was arrested and charged for the murder of his lover in Ocho Rios, the trial has still not started as the court again has given time for the accused to get a lawyer.
Tour bus operator Kevin Peterkin is charged for the murder of his 22-year-old common-law-wife, Sasha Edwards, of Milford Road in Ocho Rios.
On June 22, 2011 Edwards, was stabbed to death during a fight with Peterkin at the house where they both lived at the time, just outside Ocho Rios central.
North Coast Times has been following this case in which the court has on at least four occasions asked Kevin Peterkin to settle his legal representation.
Kevin Peterkin’s legal representation is still not settled, despite his numerous visits to the St Ann Circuit Court.
The matter is still unsettled in spite of prior warnings and urgings of judges in earlier sessions of the St Ann Circuit Court.
He was told by one judge that the court “will not wait forever”, to proceed with the matter.
When the matter was mentioned on Tuesday, May 30, before Justice Glen Brown, documentation stated that Peterkin is represented by attorney, Oswest Senior Smith.
Junior attorney, Sonya Stewart who appeared on behalf of Mr Senior Smith on Tuesday, told the court that she was given no instructions in relation to this matter and that details are to be finalized.
The matter was then set for mention on June 8. By then it is expected that legal representation will be settled and the matter will then proceed. Peterkin had his bail extended
