The team beat St Mary High 1-0, away at Highgate Monday, September 11,  through a goal by Damarley Ricketts in the first half.

The team from Bailey’s Vale, Port Maria, formerly Brimmer Vale High are in high spirits preparing for St Mary Technical on Friday.

Coach of Wycliffe Martin Neo Rattigan says the team he put out wasn’t even the his first 11 as he’s waiting on ISSA to approve up to five players who are part of the squad. They were not on the field as the school sports administration body has not yet approved the transfer process.

Mr Rattigan says he had to improvise with the team, considering different levels of skill and even physical height he had to contend with, while waiting for his full team.

“We’re aiming for the top and have to deal with the two St Marys [St Mary High and St Mary Technical] first,” he said.

He acknowledged the high pedigree of St Mary Technical High but said “We are trying tp ciip their wings from early…The win (Monday) was a big motivation for us” Mr Rattigan said.

Also on Monday, Annotto Bay High beat Iona High by four goals to one.

Editor’s Note: Some readers not familiar with the style of sports writing will consider it an error when we refer to a team as ‘their’ or in the plural as in Wycliffe Martin ‘plan’ to etc. In sports, teams are referred to in the plural, hence Jamaica ‘draw’ with France etc. It’s the style in sport.
