VOLVO IS TOP ST ANN TEAM AFTER PUTTING DOWN EXCHANGE

Volvo United of Priory  crowned  themselves  the  new  champions   of  the  Captain’s  Bakery & Grill-sponsored  St  Ann   Football  Association  Major  League   2013-2014  season  when  they  edged  former  champions   Exchange  United by  1-0. Priory took the title over the Ocho Rios  boys at Drax  Hall  on  Sunday   April  6, 2014.  The match, played under light, was watched   by  a  large   and  enthusiastic  crowd  as both teams put  up  a  spirited  performance, with several shots   hitting  the  cross  bars  and  uprights. As the game progressed it was Volvo  that looked the  better  team. Volvo  displayed  a superb   quality  of  football,  dominating  the  middle and  attacking  brilliantly   to  hold  of  the  fast  finishing  pace  from  the  Exchange  forwards  who  countered  attacked    on  both  wings. The  David  Pryce-coached  boys  from  Seville  Heights  in  Priory   scored  the  all  important   goal  midway  the  half   when  Lincoln  Brissett,  latched  on to  a  loose  ball  on  the  edge    of  the  18-yard  box, turned  made  a  good  move  towards  goal  before  he  slotted  home  past  the  advancing  keeper. Hundreds  of  spectators  rushed  onto  the  field  in  celebration  of  Volvo’s  goal. The  championship,    played  under    the  usual  league  format,  saw  Volvo  winning  the  league  with  39  points. They will take the cash prize  of  $200,000  and the  Captain’s Bakery & Grill  Trophy.Exchange  United finished  second  with  37  points.   Lime  Hall  Community  Club  formerly  Benfica  F.C.  ended  in  third  spot  with  36  points,  Brown’s Town  came  fourth  with  35  points  and  Lewis Strikers  finished  in  fifth  position  with  29 points.

Volvo  and  Exchange  will  represent  the  Parish  in  the  upcoming  Eastern  Confederation  play  off  for  a  place  in  next  season’s  National  Premier  League. An  elated  Volvos  coach  David  Pryce,  said  that  he  was  very  happy  and  pleased  with  his  team’s  performance  and  congratulated  them   for  winning  this  year’s  title. Coach  Pryce  said  that  his  team  attributed  victory  to hard work  of training   with  discipline  determination  and   dedication. He said they want a St Ann  team to get into the Premier League.
