UNSUNG HEROES OF ST ANN HONOURED

8 FROM VARIOUS AREAS RECOGNIZED FOR SELFLESS WORK

ST ANN’S BAY, St Ann, Oct. 23, 2024

Eight people were honoured Monday as unsung heroes who have done much to improve the lives of people in parts of St Ann.

The Civic Affairs Committee of the St Ann Municipal Corporation (SAMC) recognised and named the eight.

The eight and their areas of contribution were:

  • Sgt Marlon Spence, Sports & Community Service;
  • Henry Brady, Sports & Community Service;
  • Damion Duckett, Culture;
  • Howard Chambers, Philanthropy;
  • Dr Everton Walters, Religion & Community Service;
  • John Emanuel Sinclair, Community Service
  • Dr Clover Mae Francis, Education
  • Deana Celine Flinn, Volunteerism

They were honoured at a ceremony at the statue of National Hero Marcus Mosiah Garvey at the Parish Library in St Ann’s Bay.

The ceremony, the main one for the parish to mark National Heroes Day, was attended by civic leaders, and heads of business and politics, including newly appointed Custos of St Ann Joseph Issa who was attending his first official function in the capacity. Mr Issa read the Governor General’s Message. Before doing that, he encouraged Jamaicans to work to make tomorrow better than today.

Also in attendance was the newly elected MP for North East St Ann, Matthew Samuda. Chairman of the SAMC and Mayor of St Ann’s Bay Michael Belnavis led several councillors from the JLP and the PNP in attendance.

Chair of the function was CEO of the SAMC Jennifer Brown Cunningham.

Several items were presented by school children and JCDC awardees.
