BROWN’S TOWN V MARCUS; ST MARY HIGH V ST MARY TECH

OCHO RIOS, St Ann; Oct. 11, 2024

There are some crucial daCosta Cup matches in the zones involving St Mary and St Ann Schools this weekend.

On Friday afternoon, Oct. 11, in Zone ‘K’ Brown’s Town and Marcus Garvey play a crucial match to decide who will likely get the second spot behind Ocho Rios High in the zone.

Ocho Rios High put down Brown’s Town 3-0 on Wednesday to regain leadership of the group. This followed their loss of six points, dropping them to second, for using an ineligible player. That player, Kaniel Brown who returned after serving out his suspension for three yellow cards, scored a double and Keanu Reid scored one against Brown’s Town.

According to the latest points standing issued by ISSA on Friday, October 11,  Ocho Rios High have 21 points and have qualified for the Round of 32.

Brown’s Town are in second place with 19 points followed by Marcus Garvey High with 16. Garvey would have to win big to stand a chance of getting to the Round of 32, as Brown’s Town also have a superior goal difference.

Ferncourt in fourth place are out of it.

The table above also shows that Happy Grove have gone through as Zone ‘L’ winners, making it three schools from Portland in the round of 32.

HIGHGATE DERBY

In St Mary, the derby between St Mary High and St Mary Technical, Friday, Oct 11,  is expected to be very interesting. The two are battling for the one place left in Zone ‘M’ after Port Antonio High with 24 points and Titchfield High with 19 took the two top spots. St Mary High have 12 and ‘Technical’ 10. Technical’s only chance to get through is to win while St Mary High should avoid losing to grab the third spot and final Zone ‘M’ spot.

Over in Zone ‘D’ where only one St Ann team plays, Discovery Bay High are out of contention, running fourth behind Spot Valley who have already qualified, with 23 points William Knibb 19 and Cedric Titus, 16 points
