The man charged for the 2011 killing of a Marcus Garvey Technical High student in Runaway Bay, St Ann is set to be tried on October 18, 2016.
Charged is Marlon Reid who had pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him, over five years ago, for the murder of 16-year-old Vencott Miles.
Reid last appeared in court on June 3.
Miles was found with his throat slashed at his home near Runaway Bay, St. Ann.
Reid had previously misled the court into thinking that attorney, K. McKenzie was representing him, which turned out to be false. He had later said he did not have the money to retain a lawyer. However, attorney at law, Vincent Wellesley, will now be representing him.
Reid had his bail extended and his case is now set for trial on October 18.
Vencott Miles of Hampstead, Runaway Bay, St Ann, was brutally killed after a man allegedly climbed through his bedroom window and slashed his throat.
The incident reportedly took place around 2 am on Saturday, April 2, 2011, after the teen and family members returned from the Apostolic Ark tent crusade held at the Salem Pentecostal Church in Runaway Bay.
It was reported that after getting home, Miles went to his room and lay in bed while speaking to a female friend on the phone.
In the wee hours of the morning, Miles reportedly stumbled into his sister’s room with his throat slashed. His terrified family immediately tried to rush him to the hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the St. Ann’s Bay Public Hospital approximately 15 miles from his home.
The family had theorized that Miles’ murder was as a result of a feud between him and the accused, over a 16-year-old girl from another high school in St. Ann. Miles is believed to have had a relationship with the girl.
Marlon Reid is reported to be a relative of the girl.
