A Trelawny family is questioning why, after two weeks, the police have not arrested and charged anyone in connection with the death of a 67-year old, farmer and vendor of Stewart Town in the parish. Sixty-seven-year old Sereica Palmer, a small farmer was found dead in a river near her home in Stewart Town on Thursday, August 28. The woman’s son was taken into custody in connection with the killing. However, checks revealed that that the man has been released from custody. There are also reports that the police are searching for another suspect in connection with the murder. The police however, have not confirmed these reports.
The family of the woman is distraught saying that they have not been able to get any information from the police, despite giving several statements. They say they need answers because they do not understand why no one has been arrested and charged for the murder.
It was reported that the son of the woman was taken into custody because he and his mother had a longstanding dispute. It is alleged that he had threatened to kill the woman in July this year. Family members and residents say however that the man was released from custody last Tuesday and has been seen in the community. Reports are that Mrs Palmer’s body was seen, by a farmer, floating in the popular Darnack River. She was found with chop wounds to her head, hands and back. There were also several bruises to other sections of her body. It is believed that the woman was killed and her body thrown into the river.
