Flame On Its Way Around The Island
The Special Olympics Flame of Hope (The Torch) touched down in Portland Wednesday morning as it continued its journey across 14 parishes.
It was received by head of Portland Police Superintendent Lloyd Darby at the Portland St Thomas border before fund raising activities in Port Antonio.
The Portland police have agreed to raise $100,000 toward the $3 million target set by Jamaica’s partners of the Law Enforcement Torch Run 2023
The Flame was sent on its way at the Harbour View roundabout, St Andrew on Monday and went through St Thomas before getting to Portland.
The Run is aimed at raising awareness and providing financial support of intellectually challenged people. It is taking place even as the Special Olympics are being held in Germany.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), is supported by the Jamaica Defence Force, Jamaica Fire Brigade, Department of Correctional Services, Jamaica Customs Agency, and the Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency in the Run.
The Torch is to be handed over to St Mary’s head of Police Thursday as it makes its way through the 19 police divisions in the lead-up to the 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, July 16 at the Police Officers’ Club, St Andrew.
