MOBO Award
Recording artistes Chronixx, Tarrus Riley, Alkaline, Popcaan, and UK-based Stylo G, have all been nominated for a Music of Black Origin, MOBO Award. They have been nominated in the category of Best Reggae Act. The MOBO Awards is held annually to recognize artists of any ethnicity or nationality performing black music. Chronixx has been having a good year thus far, with his EP titled ‘Dread and Terrible’ topping the Billboard Charts, as he continues to promote the record across Europe and the United States. ‘The Dread & Terrible’ project was released in April, consisting of 10 tracks. Dancehall Star Popcaan in the meantime dropped his debut album, ‘Where we come from’ which consists of hits such as ‘The System’, ‘Dream’, ‘Ravin’ and Billboard charting song, ‘Only Man She Want’. In the meantime Singy Singy Tarrus Riley released his ‘Love Situation’ record earlier this year, which consists of 17 tracks. The MOBO Awards, returning to London after more than five years away, will take place at Wembley Arena on October 22.
Daylight at Danielle D.I
Dancehall Female DJ Danielle D.I has been a victim of robbery. A house occupied by family members of dancehall artiste Danielle DI was ransacked as armed assailants invaded the premises seeking jewelry and other valuables. It’s believed that the robbers who attacked in broad daylight parked close to the premises and used the guise of a courier service to invade the property. The artiste’s mother who was present at the time of the robbery says after three men barged in with guns, they tied everyone present with electrical wire and clothes. The mother adds that a cousin was robbed of approximately $500,000 worth of jewelry. Danielle DI’s room had been searched, but it’s reported that only a watch valued at over US$1,200 and a ring were taken. The robbers then fled the compound on foot. The Matilda’s Corner police have confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.
TOK’S REALITY
Since the release of the 1st episode of T.O.K Taking Over Reality Series which airs on local TV, the show has been gaining fans every week and becoming more popular with viewers after each episode. Now at its 10th episode, the show is gaining growing fascination with its “realness” and the distinct personality of each group member. The positive reviews and social media commendations include, but are not limited to, the quality of the production and the entertainment value. Riding on the popularity wave of the series, the group will be doing more outside of the show to concretize their success in the industry. T.O.K just released three singles EP on iTunes called ‘Taking Over’ , ‘Bring The Party’ and ‘Good Good’ ft Dj Blass & the title track “Taking Over” which features new comer Mariel Jacoda from the Therapist music camp. Additionally, the group just came back from the United States promoting the release of their EP and was featured at a number of events in Massachusetts and the New York Tri-State area. This year marks the 15th anniversary of T.O.K’s reign in the music business and they will be celebrating this milestone October 18.
Ambassador Shelly-Ann
Double Olympic and World Championship 100m gold medallist, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce has been appointed Ambassador Special Envoy by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller. The reigning IAAF female athlete of the year also received diplomatic traveling privileges after collecting her diplomatic passport at a function held at Jamaica House. Her Husband, Jason was also the recipient of a diplomatic passport, which will allow him to accompany her on ambassadorial duties.
FREE GAZA SLIM
Female Recording Artiste Gaza Slim is now a free woman, and is now taking bookings for overseas shows. This, after the Director of Public Prosecution -DPP- Paula Llewelyn dropped the conspiracy case against her and Dancehall Artiste Vybz Kartel.
OMI
Jamaican Born singer OMI says he is focused on longevity in the Jamaican music industry. The ‘Cheerleader’ crooner, who just released a new single ‘Colour of my Lips’ with Busy Signal, says he’s focused on putting the ground work that is needed to maintain his presence in the industry. Fans of OMI can also look out for new songs and a possible album from the artiste.

Well, the divorce between Whiz and Amber has got well….heated. Wiz Khalifa drew the battle lines in his divorce with Amber Rose, challenging her move to get full custody of their one year old son. Wiz has filed his response to Amber’s divorce petition, he’s asking for joint custody of Sebastian. Wiz also is agreeable on the prenup like Amber, he wants it enforced.
