Titchfield, Portland High advance to Portland police debate finals

 

The two schools to face off in the Portland police debating competition finals are Titchfield and Portland high; this after both schools won their respective semi final matches on Friday, April 29, at Hotel Timbamboo in Port Antonio.

 

Titchfield had faced off with Buff Bay high over the moot, “The legalization of marijuana in Jamaica would do more harm than good.”

Titchfield proposed the moot while Buff Bay opposed. The judges awarded Titchfield the match with 1,234 points to Buff Bay’s 1,160 points. The top speaker of the match was Titchfield’s Christina Williams. Samoya Jones was named the best speaker for Buff Bay.

 

Meanwhile, Portland high faced off with Happy Grove high over the moot, “The age of consent for sex should be increased from 16  to 18 years of age.” Portland high proposed the moot while Happy Grove opposed. The judges awarded Portland high the match with 1,264 points to Happy Grove’s 1,100 points. The top speaker of the match was Cameca Speid of Portland High. Chevannal Carr was named the best speaker for Happy Grove.

 

The judges were Carol Pinnock, Maxine Jones, Maureen Wilks-Miller, Easton Berry and Linace Gordon-Coleman.
