TITCHFIELD HIGH DOING ‘RELATIVELY WELL’ FOR RESTART

Most Staff Vacancies Filled, Classrooms Repaired

Titchfield High School has done “relatively well” in preparing for the start of the school year, Monday.

So says the principal of the school Richard Thompson. Mr Thompson told journalists, on the first day of school, that the institution had managed to fill more than 20 vacancies, and all that was outstanding was one teacher of physics. He said some of those recruited were relatively experienced but the school would use mentorship and other support programmes to enhance their work.

He thanked the Ministry of Education for significant work to repair some 16 temporary classrooms, made mainly of ply. The classrooms were erected more than 20 years ago to get the school off the shift system. Mr Thomson said the Ministry had come in and done the repairs.

However, he stressed that repairs of the temporary structures were not the best solution and that the need existed for permanent classrooms.

He said the school had also been fitted with ramps, for the first time, to allow access to several key areas for students with disabilities.
