Tessanne’s project, Patra’s cooking and I’ Octane’s closing

Kiprich

While revealing this week that he’s now signed to Out A Road Records, which is based in Canada, Dancehall Artiste Kiprich says he sees the new deal as a “golden” opportunity to spread his music in that area, which he says will ultimately lead to an even wider fan base in America and Europe. Kippo says the deal, which was sealed recently, comes following a tour of Canada last month. However, the entertainer says the deal does not mean that he will be out of the island for an extended period. When asked about whether he will be performing at Reggae Sumfest this year, he says he’s yet to receive a call from the Promoters..

Bob Marley

A dispute over the rights to some of Bob Marley’s most famous songs has been settled following a court battle in Britain. The legal war between two music companies, Cayman Music and Blue Mountain Music, went to the U.K.’s High Court in London in a bid to settle a disagreement over a copyright contract covering tracks including ‘No Woman, No Cry’. Bosses at Cayman argued they should have been accorded copyright to 13 songs in a transfer deal dating back to 1992, but executives at Blue Mountain challenged the claim. During the case, lawyers for Blue Mountain alleged Marley had “falsely” attributed the songs to other writers in a bid to keep them out of a copyright deal he signed with Cayman in 1973. A judge sided with Blue Mountain and ruled Cayman bosses had no rights to the songs, as “Marley did not publicly describe himself as the author”. Bob Marley died in 1981.

Patra

Queen Patra is coming forward with a new Cook Book. The book is expected to be released this year. The Veteran Deejay, who will also be releasing a new “comeback” album, says the Cookbook focuses on mainly local dishes, all while promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Mr. Vegas

Mr. Vegas posted a video on his Facebook page challenging I Octane to a clash during dancehall night at Reggae Sumfest. He chided Octane for his suggestion that he “Wanted Mr. Vegas to perform in front of him”. “Don’t work in front of no man, yu go luuuu, Octane,” Mr. Vegas said. “Mek we work one time, ah dancehall night on Sumfest. Bring it, no media hype, no fake forward…as a matter of fact, just bring yu torchie dem, dem de one side of the venue, ah dem alone can show yu worth, me ah go natural, with God Almighty and the real fans dem.” It is sad that this generation of artistes find no shame in arguing about who will close a dancehall show. This sort of back and forth about closing a festival is unheard of, how can a top artiste decline the invitation to do so after he foundered spectacularly last year? This sort of behaviour only lowers the bar for dancehall and makes it near-to-impossible for the youths to continue to make the dancehall industry viable.
