Man attacked while scolding stepson
A teen is in custody for the murder of his stepfather following a domestic dispute in Claremont St Ann, Tuesday night, March 28.
Dead is Desmond Smith also called “Bandick”, 58 years old of Coultart Grove District, Claremont in the parish.
A 17-year-old, unemployed male of Retreat district is in custody for the murder.
Reports are that the mother of the suspect and Smith, her partner, got reports that the teen was begging on the streets. They were reportedly scolding him about it, when he began to
physically attack his mother and Smith, his stepfather. He also allegedly damaged fixtures and furnishings in the house.
Police reports are that the teen used a knife to stab Smith in the head and upper body.
The police said when they arrived they saw Smith in the sitting position, against the wall in his bedroom. He was rushed to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital by Claremont domestic patrol team where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect then walked to the Claremont Police Station and handed over himself to the police. The weapon was also retrieved by residents and handed over to the police.
