Ochi-based club wins 7 medals in world competition
Team Rockets Track and Field Club joined teams from around the globe for seven (7) days of exciting action at the eighteen-year running AAU Club Championship held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, USA. Attending the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States (AAU) Club Championship for the first time proved successful for Team Rockets Track and Field Club. In an Olympic type setting, the event hosted over 280 track clubs and hundreds of unattached athletes from all over the world. This was an extremely competitive event and Team Rockets athletes competed against some of the world’s best. The event consisted of numerous categories, each consisting of at least eighty (80) athletes. Team Rockets made many semifinals and though we suffered some setbacks resulting in a few of our athletes not being able to compete further due to illness, we were able to enter four finals. We are extremely proud of our achievements as we came away from withtwo (2) silver medals in the twelve (12) year-old boys’ category in both the 100m and 200m. We snatched 4th place in the relay in that same category and 6th place in the nine (9) year-old boys 100m finals. Our medal count at the end of Championship stands at seven(7) which is an accomplishment that we are very proud of. Particularly outstanding were: Ashton Allen, who was one of the most important runners, Auston Powers, 200m champion and Rohan Watson. We want to take this opportunity to thank all the parents, supporters and sponsors for their unwavering loyalty and commitment. On a battle field of thousands, the nineteen (19) athletes from Team Rockets stood tall and proud, ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL. A special shout out to Team Rockets Athletes Dhamani,KJ, Sanjay and EJ, get well soon.
