MASSIVE ST MARY SECURITY OPERATIONS ON EMANCIPATION DAY

A woman was arrested and charged for assaulting a police officer, and a man was charged for a firearm seized in a massive operation by the security forces in St Mary on Saturday, Emancipation Day.
Details of the incident in which the woman assaulted the police were not given, but the North Coast Times learned that she is 45 years old and self-employed, of Frontier, Port Maria.
Police said a 34-year-old male teacher was arrested following a search at premises at Albion Mountain. They said they seized a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver, several rounds of ammunition, spent casings and a Glock magazine and arrested and charged the teacher in connection with the seizure.
According to police, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), in collaboration with the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), carried out a major coordinated security operation across the communities of Port Maria, Islington and Annotto Bay, St. Mary, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, between 3:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The operation, which involved more than 100 personnel from the St. Mary Police Division, the Area 2 Fugitive Apprehension Team, the Canine Division, the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), and the JDF, formed part of the Division’s ongoing intelligence-led policing strategy aimed at disrupting criminal activity, apprehending offenders, removing illegal firearms from communities, and enhancing public safety.
During the coordinated operation, officers executed several targeted search warrants and conducted strategic vehicle checkpoints at key locations throughout the Division.
Ten persons were also detained, questioned, and released pending further investigations.
Commanding Officer for the St. Mary Division, Superintendent Anthony Wallace, commended the officers and soldiers for their professionalism and coordinated efforts throughout the operation. He reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to proactively targeting criminal elements and removing illegal firearms from the streets as part of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s crime reduction strategy.
