Tacky High have advanced to the inter-zone round of the DaCosta Cup for the first time in some 15 years.
Coach of the team David Pryce says it is a huge achievement for the school with mainly inexperienced players.
Tacky, from Gayle St Mary, needed only a point to ensure their advance with two matches to go last week, against Horace Clarke of Islington. They had a bit of a stumble as they lost the first of those two matches 3-2 on Thursday, with the controversial sending off of one player. On Saturday, October 15, the teams drew 1-1 ensuring Tacky topped Zone J with 17 points.
The team is expecting to rely on main goal scorers from the preliminary round — Romario Gibbs 7, Giovanni McLean, and Ronaldo Brown, five each, in their quest to do well.
Their group in the inter-zone round is not yet known as other teams in the rural area schoolboy football competition have not completed their schedule.

“I give God thanks and am happy for the team. The majority of them are inexperienced. So this is a major achievement,” Coach Pryce told the North Coast Times.
