Seventy-seven students have graduated from Tacky High School, St Mary with a charge from the Principal to go and take their rightful place in society.

The graduation ceremony was held at the True Missionary Church of God, at Lucky Hill, St Mary, on July 5, 2023.

Three of the 77 graduated with honours diplomas, signifying that they had achieved the distinction of gaining an average of 75 per cent or more in five subjects. They are Britney Cole, Felecia Edwards, and Kristyn Sewell. Eight others who scored an average of 70 per cent or more in five subjects graduated with Diplomas.

Valedictorians were Head Boy Chevon Thompson and Head Girl Quewanda McFarlane. Grade 11 Coordinator was Jeffery Britton

Among those bringing greetings was MP for Western St Mary, where the school is located, Robert Montague. Guest Speaker was Devon Mercurious of City and Guilds examination group.

In his report, Principal Errol Bascoe highlighted the concerns that the school continued to operate two campuses, the main one at Gayle and the other at Retreat, for the Grade 7 students. He said this continued to have negative effects on the school because there was still no internet, no computer lab and no library at the Retreat campus.

Mr Bascoe said he had been lobbying and asking successive administrations, over the years, to purchase lands adjacent to the Gayle campus. He said that would make it possible for the construction of classrooms to bring Tacky High under one coordinated campus with many advantages to the school community.
