TACKY CARRY ST MARY FLAG, 2 STAY IN FOR PORTLAND

KNIBB KEEP TRELAWNY IN D’CUP ROUND OF 16 , ST ANN DROP OUT

The two Portland teams, plus one from St Mary and one from Trelawny are the North East Coast contenders that continue to the Round of 16 of the daCosta Cup, following matches Wednesday.

Port Antonio High advanced at the expense of Mannings. Though the Westmoreland team won the second leg 2-1 for a 2-2 aggregate, Port Antonio made progress on the away goals rule.  Happy Grove advanced too, after a 2-2 draw with Ocho Rios who they had beaten in the first round 2-1, for an aggregate 4-3 win.

Tacky are the only team from St Mary to advance after putting away Cedric Titus 4-2 having shared a 0-0 draw in the first match of the home and away tie. William Knibb continue to do well advancing at the expense of Central, who they beat 1-0 following the first round 0-0 draw.

Horace Clarke of St Mary went down by 0-7 against Dinthill, following their 0-2 loss in the first round and St Mary received another hammering from Garvey Maceo  0-9 to add to the 0-7 loss on the first leg.

Coach of Tacky David Pryce noted that he had achieved the primary goal taking Tacky to the round of 16, a place the team had never been before. “Everything now is a bonus we are going in [to the round] positive, it’s the time for the Big boys now,” he said.

He admitted that the loss of Romario Gibbs for the next round, through a red card from Wednesday’s match will be a big loss. . Gibbs who scored in the game against Titus was ejected along with two players from the Trelawny team  in the game. Scoring the other goals for Tacky were Nijae Pottinger 2, and Deandre Jackson 1

In the first set of matches in the Round of 16, Saturday,  Knibb will play Christiana at Drax Hall, Tacky play away to Manchester High. The Portland teams, Happy Grove and Port Antonio against BB Cooke and Frome Technical both matches at Carder Park in the Portland capital where a big crowd is expected,.
