The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is now incharge of the boxes containing votes for SW StAnn, in yesterday’s General Elections.Meantime supporters of the two major partiesare on edge about the final outcome, after anarrow win was declared for the JLP’s ZaviaMayne, newcomer to political representation.In the preliminary count, Mayne polled 6,992votes to beat Keith Walford (PNP) 6872, by 120votes. Walford represented SW in the lastParliament.The EOJ would commence what is called the“final count” between today and Monday in theconstituency but Mr Walford asked for therecount not to take place in Alexandria as wasexpected, at the EOJ offices there.

Reports are that early this morning partysupporters descended on that office this morningasking for the boxes but soldiers had altreadytaken custody of them.The boxes were finally taken off, under armedescort, early afternoon Friday and will becounted in Kingston at the EOJ offices.(See next issue of The Times for full report andpics on North Coast politics)
