SW St. Ann waiting boxes gone to Kingston for count

  • The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is now in
charge of the boxes containing votes for SW St
    Ann, in yesterday’s General Elections.
Meantime supporters of the two major parties
are on edge about the final outcome, after a
narrow win was declared for the JLP’s Zavia
    Mayne, newcomer to political representation.
In the preliminary count, Mayne polled 6,992
votes to beat Keith Walford (PNP) 6872, by 120
votes. Walford represented SW in the last
    Parliament.
The EOJ would commence what is called the
“final count” between today and Monday in the
constituency but Mr Walford asked for the
recount not to take place in Alexandria as was
expected, at the EOJ offices there.
  • Reports are that early this morning party
supporters descended on that office this morning
asking for the boxes but soldiers had altready
    taken custody of them.
The boxes were finally taken off, under armed
escort, early afternoon Friday and will be
counted in Kingston at the EOJ offices.
