The man charged for the brutal murder of three-year-old Nevalisia Campbell, was remanded in custody when he appeared in the St Ann Parish Court on Wednesday, July 20.
He is Alexus Newland, otherwise called ‘Dal Dal’, of Milford, St Ann.
The matter was not disclosed to the general public that it would have been heard today due to safety measures. However, reports are that Newland was unrepresented when he appeared before Parish Judge Vaughn Facey.
He is to attain legal representation by the time he is set to reappear in court August 4 for mention.
Young Nevalisia’s body was found with several chop wounds Sunday morning, July 10, hours after she disappeared from her home close to midnight that Saturday.
She lived with her twin brother and mother in Orange Hill near Brown’s Town, St Ann.
It is being theorized that Nevalisia and her twin brother were home alone and their mother was a party in the community with their step-father, Saturday night, July 19 when someone entered the house and took the child away.
Police suspect that it was Newland who took the girl from her home and chopped her all over her body.
