GUN RECOVERED, WOMAN STILL IN HOSPITAL
ST ANN’S BAY, April 16
A man said to be a suspect in the murder of police constable Ricardo Fairclough was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon, April 16 in St Ann.
Dead is Siraldo Butler, also called Siri of Steer Town, St Ann.
Faircloguh was shot about 8:30 Monday evening, April 15, close to the St Ann’s Bay police station to which he was assigned. He had gone to assist a woman who had been shot when a gunman turned a gun on him.
Butler died in what police said was a confrontation with officers on Snake Lane, Steer Town, St. Ann, shortly after 3:00 pm on Tuesday, April 16. His photograph had been circulating on social media from early Tuesday morning, naming him a suspect.
The police report has now raised the suggestion that more than one gunman was involved in the murder of Constable Fairclough.
The police release said: “The deceased, identified as Siraldo Butler, also known as ‘Siri,’ was reportedly one of the suspects in the fatal shooting of Constable Ricardo Fairclough in St. Ann’s Bay.”
It said further: “During the operation that resulted in Butler’s death, police recovered one pistol at the scene. Both the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) have been notified.”
The vendor shot before Constable Fairclough was killed is still in hospital. It is not known what precipitated the attack on her that led to her being shot on Bravo Street, St Ann’s Bay.
