STUDENTS KILLED IN CRASH IDENTIFIED

EDUCATION MINISTRY IN SOLIDARITY WITH TITCHFIELD

The two Titchfield High School students who perished in a crash near Buff Bay, Portland, Tuesday afternoon, have been identified.

They are JaJuan Wynter a grade 9 student who lived in Annotto Bay and Onaje Lindsay, a grade 11 student.

The boys were killed and four of their schoolmates injured when a Toyota Picnic motorcar in which they were travelling crashed into the right side of a disabled truck on the road near to Buff Bay, Portland. The crash took place on the Blueberry Hill Main Road.

The six students in the vehicle and the driver were all taken to the Annotto Bay Hospital where JaJuan and Onaje were pronounced dead and the others admitted.

2 STUDENTS PERISH IN PORTLAND CRASH

Reports are that two male and two female students are still in hospital. One is said to be critical.

Ministry of Education officials from Region 2 were deployed to Titchfield High School, on Wednesday morning, May 15, as the school tried to deal with the loss.

Minister of Transport Daryl Vaz was among those sending condolences to the families affected and the school. Vaz who is also MP for the area where the crash took place said, “These senseless deaths on our roads are happening far too often as a result of irresponsible driving habits both by private and public vehicle operators.”

 

In a release, the Ministry of Education and Youth (MOEY) said Wednesday: “In response to this devastating event, the MOEY is swiftly mobilizing its dedicated grief crisis team to provide comprehensive psychosocial support to the affected students, staff, and the surrounding community of Titchfield High School. This team is comprised of trained professionals equipped to offer counseling and assistance during this challenging time.”

Minister of Education Fayval Williams said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the students who tragically lost their lives in this terrible accident. We stand in solidarity with the Titchfield High School community during this difficult period.”
