The man who was named and his picture released a week ago as a suspect in the case of abduction of a nine-year old St Ann girl had still not given up himself to the police, up to Monday afternoon.Checks with superintendent in charge of Ocho Rios, T Haughton, revealed that Donald Kington, aka ‘Parson’ and ‘Ruga’, a handy man and musician of Cecilia Street, Exchange, Ocho Rios St Ann, had not turned himself in to police. Police last week issued a composite sketch of Kington and described him as in his early 30s, about 170 centimetres or 5 ft 7 inches tall. They said he is of brown complexion and has plaited hair.
Although police asked residents of Exchange not to take matters into their own hands, several young men in the area have continued to search for Parson. However, reports are that he left the area the very day, Thursday, February 6, when the young girl he allegedly abducted was taken to the police.
Superintendent Haughton told The Times, “We are still searching for him and want him to turn himself in.”
Meantime, more information is coming in about what allegedly happened after the nine year old was taken from her beside her mother in their bed at their home in Warwick Mount, about 4 a.m. A resident of the area confirmed that they saw Kington in the morning busier than ever and that he had gone out to buy two meals.
Reports said the person who saw him was a woman for whom he sometimes works. However he did not stop to speak with anyone that morning. It is reported that the little girl was left alone around midmorning in Kington’s room where he lived alone and, finding the door unlocked, she went out onto the street.A resident of Exchange told The Times that she saw the child and knew “by the way she was walking that something was wrong.” She said she spoke to the girl who said “she wanted to go home.” Although Warwick Mount, her home was only a few miles away, the child did not know how to get there and appeared disoriented. She said that right there in the streets she made a brief examination of the girl and called a female friend. The two women decided to take the child to the police station in Ocho Rios after she said she did not know the name of the man who took her away. She said the child then pointed out a man whom she (the woman) knew. They continued to the police station where police took the girl to the hospital. The woman and her friend said they were not the ones who revealed information about the girl that angered area residentsPolice say they informed all social agencies, including the Child Development Agency about the childPolice said they later went to the home in Exchange to which the child had been taken after she was abducted from her home. They recovered a mobile phone belonging to the child’s mother. No one was at the house at the time.
