Still no charge in 88-year-old Runaway Bay woman’s murder

One man remains in custody as the probe continues into the murder six weeks ago, of an elderly woman in St Ann.

The woman killed, 88-year-old Netty Rowe, was found in her bedroom with multiple stab wounds. She was killed at her home in Salem/Runaway Bay, St Ann on Wednesday, May 17.

Earlier reports had said she had been raped but medical tests since the incident showed there was no sign of sexual assault.

According to head of crime for St Ann, deputy superintendent (DSP) Richard Hilton, one man remains in custody.

Reports are that the woman’s body was discovered by a relative at around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17 with multiple stab wounds to the chest.

She lived alone at Salem, along the main street in an area that is becoming increasingly commercialized. A source told The Times that the police are awaiting crucial forensic information in the case to determine if charges will be laid against the suspect in custody.

Rowe was laid to rest on Saturday, July 1.
