St. Mary man wanted for murder turns himself over to Manchester police

His girlfriend charged in Manchester businessman’s murder

A St. Mary woman has been charged for receiving stolen property in the investigation of the murder of Manchester businessman Trevor Meikle, in Mandeville.

The woman appeared before the Mandeville Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, May 3 and was offered bail in the sum of J$300,000.

The woman, Jodi-Ann Stewart, the girlfriend of a man they were seeking, had been held and taken into custody after she was found with a cell phone that belonged to the daughter of Mr Meikle.

Mr Meikle was shot dead on Sunday, April 17 at his gate after he dropped off his daughter, who was coming from the airport, at her home on Battersea Drive in Mandeville.

He and his wife were robbed of items including cash, jewellery, a mobile phone, and debit and credit cards.

It had been reported that a call was made by the woman from a cellphone allegedly belonging to Meikle’s daughter.

Checks later revealed that the woman was in Islington, St Mary and that she was the girlfriend of Steve Edwards.

The woman and Edwards’ brother were arrested.

When Stewart was interrogated, she said that her boyfriend gave her the cell phone but the boyfriend disappeared.

In a release last Tuesday, police said they had held a man in custody. He was later confirmed to be Steve Edward. CCU reported that

“Another man was yesterday taken into custody in connection with the robbery and murder of 76-year-old Manchester businessman Trevor Meikle. The man, who has garnered the interest of detectives from the St. Andrew North and the Manchester Divisions, handed himself over to the Major Organized Crime and Anti- Corruption Agency (MOCA) on Monday, May 02 accompanied by his lawyer.”

Edwards was later handed over to the Manchester Police and is awaiting an identification parade.

The Constabulary Communications Unit (CCU) could not confirm whether the man had been charged or the ID parade had been conducted.woman kills baby
