ST MARY HIGH PROUD OF BEING BEST SCHOOL BAND

Big Performance At Finals After Below-Par Semi-Final  Showing

St Mary High School has won the 10th staging of the Jamaica Best School Band (JBSB) Competition.

The 13-member band beat back competition from several schools to take the contest after four rounds including the finals last week Sunday, April 23.

The final points standing were: St Mary High 92, Belair  High 84, Papine High 83.5, and Lennon High 64.

Principal of St Mary High School at Highgate,  in the parish, Jullett Frazer-Sadaar says she is ecstatic and the school is deeply proud of the win.

She says it is the icing on the cake for an excellent year in co-curricula and academic activities at the school.

Mrs Frazer-Sadaar, who attended the finals at the Edna Manley School of the Performing Arts in Kingston, said it was a pleasure to see the team perform.

She was effusive in her praise for music teacher and coach Krishauna Hurlock Whittaker who she said was hardworking, passionate, creative, and has a never-say-die spirit.

She recalled that at the semi-finals stage where Belair  High was on top, St Mary High placed third. The team returned and made changes based on the comments of the judges.  “We came back (to the finals) prepared,” she said.

The 13-member mixed school band played a medley of songs including by Sister Nancy and Chronixx, with smart moves as part of their routine.

Jamaal Sterling, Grade 12 student was bandleader. The team won $300,000 for their efforts.
