WOUNDED MAN WHO ESCAPED HOSPITAL TURNED HIMSELF IN

PORT MARIA, St Ann; Oct. 7, 2025

A wounded man who escaped police custody has turned himself in.

Herbie Ballentine, also known as “Junior,” who escaped custody at the Port Maria Hospital on Friday, October 3, 2025, is back in custody.

St Mary police say Ballentine, turned himself in to the Islington Police Station about 5:20 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025, in the presence of his attorney.

Ballentine had escaped from custody while at the Port Maria Hospital on Friday, October 3, 2025, where he received treatment after being wounded during a confrontation with the police earlier that day. Police said Tuesday, October 7, that following treatment, Ballentine overpowered an INDECOM investigator when temporarily released from handcuffs to sign a document and made good his escape. ST MARY POLICE URGE ESCAPEE TO TURN HIMSELF IN

Police had initially said he overpowered INDECOM and police personnel.

The St Mary police said Ballentine was expected to face further questioning regarding the original charges and the circumstances surrounding his escape.
