St Hilda’s Diocesan High School Alumni, Class of 1978 staged a series of activities to mark the 40th anniversary milestone on the school’s calendar. The activities were coordinated by attorney-at-law, Charmaine Smith- Bonia and a team from Jamaica and the disapora.
Alumni from Jamaica and other countries converged at the Jewel Resort and Spa Runaway Bay, from September 20 to 23, to celebrate the occasion. The activities included a visit to the school, where alumni addressed different year groups.
Alumni shared experiences about their days at St. Hilda’s and the students also shared. The principal shared some very important information about the outstanding academic performance of the school for the past ten years and some of the initiatives undertaken by the school leadership, which resulted in St Hilda’s DHS being among the top three outstanding high schools in the schools’ performance ranking.
The choir entertained the alumni with a medley of folk and other genre of music but the favourite was the rendition of the School Hymn, ‘Oh God Creator of our island mountain.’
The alumni joined the line in the Cafeteria, bought the same lunch that the students had and sat and rapped with them in the dining room during their lunch time.
One of the highlights of the activities was an anniversary dinner held at the Jewel Resort, Runaway Bay. Principal Heather Reid-Johnson also shared some of the success stories of St Hilda’s under her leadership. The Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Charmaine Gooden Monteith, Deputy Secretary General, JTA and alumna of St. Hilda’s class of 1978.
The celebrations ended with a visit to retired Teacher of English, and alumna of St Hilda’s, Dr. Faith Linton, at her home
The principal and the students lauded the class of 1978 for rekindling special moments with the school and for reaching out to the school and the current students.
