TRELAWNY OFFICER ALSO HELD IN $5M COCAINE SEIZURE AT MOBAY AIRPORT

An officer in the St Ann Municipal Corporation (SAMC) is one of two people reportedly arrested in a drug bust at the airport in Montego Bay, Friday, January 16, 2026.
Initial reports indicated that two people, one from St Ann and the other from Trelawny, were arrested on Friday, after police seized cocaine worth more than $5 million. The two were boarding flights to leave with the cocaine, which was reportedly hidden in false compartments of their suitcases.

The SAMC officer is said to have ingested more than 70 pellets of cocaine. He has been admitted to a medical facility under police guard. The man and woman were alleged to be collaborators in the attempt to export the drug.
Further reporting by the North Coast Times indicates that the value of the cocaine could be as much as $10 million.
A police release issued Saturday afternoon stated that detectives from the Firearm and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNIS) arrested two senior government employees during an operation at Sangster International Airport.
Police said, “About midday on Friday, both individuals were intercepted by Port Security and FNID personnel at a security checkpoint while attempting to board a flight to New York”.
Police said they seized 9.25 Kg of the drug worth about J$5.4 million.
Police later carried out an operation at the residences of the two, where they discovered a Glock 19 pistol and 13 rounds of ammunition.
