A man, who was on the run for over a year for the murder of a 16-year-old high school dropout from Lime Hall, St Ann, was caught in Ocho Rios, St Ann early Tuesday morning, September 27.
He is 25-year-old Kevin Rattigan, alias ‘Jigsy’ and ‘Teves’ of Lime Hall in the parish. Rattigan was listed among Jamaica’s 40 most wanted in 2015 and again amongst St Ann’s eight most wanted earlier this year. Two others on that list were caught earlier this year.
Rattigan was wanted in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Maurice Cox Jnr of New Ground, near Lime Hall, on May 29, 2015.
Rattigan was held in a police operation at around 2 a.m. as he mingled with people in an area at the clock in Ocho Rios referred to as ‘the near-never-sleep spot.’
Police sources said Rattigan had been on the run for the murder of Cox and had eluded them in raids in Lime Hall as well as in Mango Valley, St Mary that he frequented.
Cox was allegedly shot and killed by Rattigan at a house in Sandy Grove, also in Lime Hall.
There were conflicting reports at the time regarding the murder of Cox Jnr.
First reports were that the youth was shot and killed while he and other gang members played with a gun at the home of one of the gang members. However, the circumstances accepted by many in the community of Lime Hall then were that Maurice Cox Jnr was executed after he voiced objection to a recent robbery by his cronies.
Rattigan was a member of the infamous ‘After Dark’ gang that has since been dismantled by the St Ann police.
In the meantime, Roshad Moss, who was charged in relation to accessory to murder in the death of Maurice Cox Jnr, was caught the following day on Wednesday, September 28.
Police had then told The Times that he cleaned his house, where Cox was shot, in an attempt to conceal evidence.
