OTHER MAN WHO ALLEGEDLY FIRED ON POLICE ESCAPED
CLAREMONT, St Ann; March 20, 2026
A St Ann man was shot dead by police on Thursday, March 19, 2026, after he and another man reportedly fired on lawmen. The other man escaped.
Dead is Nicholas Stewart of Main Street, Claremont, St Ann. He would have celebrated his thirtieth birthday on Monday, March 23.
Reports are that on Thursday, just after midday, members of St Ann Specialized Operations were carrying out enquiries in the Claremont police area when they received information that gunmen were occupying a premises located along Main Street in the town.
After checking one house on the premises, the officers were on their way to another when they reportedly saw two (2) men armed with handguns who opened fire on them. The police took cover, and both men ran in separate directions.

One escaped and the other ran into the house. Members of the team pursued the man who entered the house. He reportedly opened fire on the lawmen who took cover and returned fire, hitting the gunman.

Police say a single-action Browning 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing four 9mm cartridges was retrieved. The man was pronounced dead at St Ann’s Bay Hospital.
INDECOM was notified.
No member of the police party was injured.
