ST ANN COPS MOURN DEATH OF COLLEAGUE

DETECTIVE CORPORAL SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES

RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann; Feb. 15, 2025

There is mourning across the St Ann Police Division following the death of one of their own, on Friday, February 14, 2025.

Detective Corporal Garfield Letford died in hospital from injuries he received in a motor vehicle crash along the Llandovery Main Road, more than two weeks ago.

He was admitted to St Ann’s Bay Hospital after the January 27 crash which left him seriously injured and unconscious. Reports had indicated that he had multiple injuries including brain damage, cracked ribs, collapsed lungs and internal bleeding.

He was transferred to a medical facility in Kingston but. His colleagues and many friends had been hoping for the best even though the medical condition did not show signs of improvement. He died Friday.

At the time of his death he was assigned to the Runaway Bay Police Station. The policeman received a Badge of Honour for Gallantry  in the National Honours list years ago.
