A St Ann-based policewoman is locked up in a New York jail after she was held, allegedly with two kilograms of cocaine at John F Kennedy Airport New york, USA.
US authorities put the street value of the drugs at US$64,000 or about seven million Jamaican dollars (J$7-M).The woman, a constable with ten years on the Force, was carrying the drugs strapped between her legs and some of it in a suitcase. The woman whose name is known to the North Coast Times (but that could not be released up to Press time), was arrested after disembarking a flight and clearing Customs at JFK. She was reportedly called back and arrested and handcuffed before dozens of people, including Jamaicans that had gone up on the flight. Her colleagues in St Ann were taken by surprise as some said she had taken sick leave and they though she was at home in St Ann.High level sources said the woman, had been allowed to pass through the process in an effort by law enforcers to see if there were any accomplices or contacts they could nab, or on whom they could get more intelligence. They said that US authorities knew she was entering with the drugs. One narcotics officer contacted by the Times, Monday, said it could well have been that the Jamaican police allowed her to leave Jamaica so they could get to her contacts in the States.
Immediately after the arrest, US authorities started talking to top Jamaican police who were asked to make the links in Jamaica with the woman. Narcotics police from Area 2 reportedly raided the home of the woman cop’s male friends, a cop based in St Mary. The search of the house yielded no drugs but the man was taken into custody. He was released Sunday.Meanwhile, in New York, the woman was taken to lock up in Rockaway for questioning before an indictment. A senior police officer told the North Coast Times “They say she is singing, Man. And calling names”, meaning she was providing information for US law enforcers.Reports are that this was not the woman’s first trip to the US recently and information is that she may have visited twice since May. Sources said in the indictment it will be revealed whether this was the first time she was believed to have been carrying drugs.
The cop has one child.
