St Ann Chamber’s 60th anniversary banquet

Some of the leading personalities in St Ann in the fields of tourism, education, business and entertainment came out to celebrate the achievements of several people nominated for the 60th annual St Ann Chamber of Commerce awards held at Jewel Runaway Bay Beach Resort and Spa on Saturday, May 30.Three individuals and two businesses walked away with the awards held in a banquet styled setting. The awards were presented in the areas of tourism, education, young entrepreneur, citizen and corporate achievement.

The awardees included: Gloria Johnson,

retired educator and past principal of Moneague College who collected the Education Award; Rory Anthony Marsh, CEO of Meldam Realtors 2011 Ltd who collected the young Entrepreneur Award and Richard Donaldson, attorney-at-Law who coped the Citizen’s Award.

Jewel Resorts received the Tourism Award, while Stafford and Marilyn Burrowes of Dolphin Cove received the Corporate Award for creating a dynamic attraction in Ocho Rios. The President’s Award was made to businessman Sanju Chatani.

The awards banquet opened with cocktails, followed by the grace and invocation by Reverend Wesley Boynes. Master of ceremonies for the awards banquet, Pauline Haughton JP, past president of the St. Ann Chamber of Commerce entertained the audience throughout the event with her wit and charm through the many jokes she had prepared for the audience.Welcome was done by president of the Chamber, Oral Heaven. He said that it was important for the Chamber to recognize micro, medium and small businesses. In addition, he congratulated all the nominees and urged them to continue their outstanding work in their fields of education, tourism, business and entrepreneurship.

Entertainment was provided at the banquet by veteran Jamaican singer, Karen Smith and an appearance was made by Busy Signal. Following the drawing of gate prizes, the acknowledgement was done by Pixley Irons.
