Founder and CEO of Life Skills Education Limited, author, and youth development specialist, Anisa Wilson-Smith has received the Spirit of Youth Development Award in recognition of the Commonwealth International Youth Week 2022.
The Week was celebrated under the theme: “Celebrating the Wins.” Mrs Wilson Smith was awarded in the areas of Training, Education Partnerships and Life Skills Development. She is a former Senior youth empowerment officer and senior programmes development specialist in the Youth and Adolescents Policy Division in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information.
The award was granted by the Jamaica Professional Youth Workers Association (JPYWA) and funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) programme which falls under the auspices of the Canadian High Commission in Jamaica. Mrs. Wilson-Smith was one of two persons awarded on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Youth Leading Crime Prevention Symposium held at the May Pen New Testament Church of God in May Pen, Clarendon.
The event featured special presentations from youth leaders from the parish to include Clarendon College, Foga, Edwin Allen, May Pen and Denbigh high schools among many others. Greetings were received from representative from the Canadian High Commission, Roberta Brown-Ellis, Mayor of Clarendon, Winston Maragh and President of the Clarendon Chamber of Commerce – Winsome Whitter.
The other Spirit of Youth Development Awardee was – Ms. Yanique Williams, Senior Director in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information.
