area 2

The Area 2 police from the St Ann, St Mary and Portland divisions all demonstrated their speed and strength in  a full schedule of track and the field events on Thursday, May 1 at Noranda Sports Complex,  Discovery Bay, St Ann. The Area 2 police track and field meet was divided into three competitive divisions: St Ann, the blue team; St Mary, the white team and Portland, the red team. Some of the popular events at the sports meet were 100-M, 200-M, 400-M, high jump, javelin, shot-putt, and tug-o-war. The race to watch was the 100 meter superintendents race where Supt Dudley Scott, Wayne Cameron, and Dwight Powell competed for the top place. It was a very competitive race from start to finish with Supt. Dudley Scott taking the top spot, followed by Dwight Powell and Wayne Cameron. The event to prove the strongest team of the day was the tug-o-war knock out competition. And as all the biggest and supposed strongest men lined up for their parish, Portland was knocked out first and then St Mary took the title.

In the men 4×100 meter relay St Ann is the team that everyone was anticipating to win the race but they had a major setback, while exchanging the baton from the first leg to the second leg, the baton fell and demolished their chance to win. The winning team for the day’s event was St Ann with 372 points, followed by St Mary, with 327 points and in third place was Portland with 166 points. The top male of the Area 2 sports meet was District Constable Michael Stewart with 36 points and the top female W/Constable Sherene Bailey 33 points. Assistant Commissioner of  Police (ACP)  Elan Powell, told The Times that one of the main aims  of this event was building relationship for the Area 2 police and to have fun. He thanked sponsors including Noranda, Complant, and Mystic Mountain. Woman Constable Auther-Lee Bryan from Portland won the sprint double, 100 and 200 meters. The Men’s 100Mwas won by Cons. Roan Suckra of St. Ann and the 200M won by District Cons. Michael Stewart. Moneague Collage provided most of the track officials and Dwayne Daley was the meet organizer. Supt.
