Spelling Bee winners at Bamboo Basic School

Bamboo Basic School, the oldest early childhood institution in the community of Bamboo, St Ann has on roll 112 students, five teachers and two auxiliary workers. All teachers are trained in the field of education. They are, one degree trained, two diploma trained and four NCTVET level 1 &2 trained in Early Childhood Education. The school has several activities that cater to the holistic development of students. Two of the popular activities are its annual Spelling Bee Competition and the annual Hats’ Day that showcases the combined talents of the parents and students.
(Teachers are: Lorraine Jobson-Beckford, principal;, Janet Scott, Meloney Williams, Yanita Murray-Smith and Melvilee Henry- Palmer. The most recent edition of Bamboo Basic School Spelling Bee Competition was held on Monday February 16, 2015.
Members of the community Janet Small and Stephanie Campbell-Barrett served as judges for the competition. Eulette Higgins, a past teacher of the Bamboo Primary and Junior High School served as the spell master.
Thirteen students from the five-year-olds class took part in the competition. Roseanne Gallimore emerged winner, with second place going to Dewhane Davis, and third place to Nia Waller.
Fourth place winner was Johannah Bailey and fifth place winner Ronique Campbell.
