The mother of the three year old that was slain at the weekend, 24-year-old Mahalia Poyser and the woman’s fiancée 30-year-old Roy Downs were remanded into custody on child negligence charges today.

The charges arose out of the death of Nevalisia Campbell, whose body was found with multiple chop wounds Sunday morning, near the house she shared with her twin brother, mother and stepfather.

Police arrested and charged the two accusing them of leaving the two children alone at their home in Orange Hill, St Ann. Police claimed the two had left the children and gone to a dance, Saturday night.

Attorney Peter McHugh who represents Poyser and Downs told the North Coast Times that while bail was not being objected to by prosecutors, certain threats were made against the mother’s life.

Mr McHugh says he will apply for bail again on July 29 when both are to reappear in court.

Meanwhile the man charged with the murder of Nevalisia, 19-year-old Alexus Newland did not appear in court today.  Police are keeping the court date a secret for security reasons.
