The Ministry of Education says schools in St Mary, Portland and St Thomas should close today because of the weather conditions.
At the same time, these parishes are still under a Flash Flood Warning, as the Met Service ay the island will continue to receive rains from the outer bands of Hurricane Ian, which is moving toward Florida.
At the same time, the Ministry of Education says, in other areas and parishes schools can open, for face to face classes, where conditions are safe.
With regard to St Mary, Portland and St Thomas (Region 2) the Ministry said “that based on the adverse weather conditions which disrupted electricity, worsened road conditions and caused flooding in some areas, students should remain at home and work remotely as previously advised.”
The Ministry advised that school principals and Boards should use their established communication channels to advise students and parents of their situation.
