The minor charged for the stabbing death of his schoolmate was granted bail in the St Ann Circuit Court by Justice Glen Brown on Tuesday, May 30.
The 17-year-old male accused was a student of the Brown’s Town High School at the time of the incident in October 2016.
It was just before midday on October 8, when tragedy struck during a dispute between the accused and the deceased, Jamala Barnaby.
It is alleged that the accused used a knife to stab Barnaby. He was taken to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The accused murderer s to return to court June 8.

At the time of his death, Barnaby was a 17-year-old grade eleven student of the said school. He had been living in Lime Hall, St Ann.
Barnaby’s Aunt had told The Times that he (Barnaby) had an altercation with the accused the day before the fatal act. She also explained that “When he came home on Wednesday (the day prior to the stabbing), he told my niece that a boy at school had rushed him. He (Jamala) was telling him that it was his last year at school and he wanted to graduate and so he didn’t want to get anymore suspension. Jamala wasn’t in any fighting mood and he wanted to put those things away and concentrate on his SBAs. But the boy still insisted, but he eventually walked away.”
Attorney Oswest Senior Smith is, by legal aid assignment, representing the accused minor.
He was allowed bail with the surety of his mother.
The matter will be mentioned on June 8 in the said court.
