SCAMMING LINKED TO MURDER OF ORACABESSA MAN

Two weeks after a man was gunned down while closing a shop in Marson Town, Oracabessa, St. Mary, the police have made no arrests of the culprits involved.

Some residents of the Oracabessa are claiming that the death of the man is linked to his alleged involvement in lotto scamming.

The man killed has been identified as nineteen-year-old Leon Savoury, otherwise called ‘Junior’, of Marson Town in Oracabessa, St. Mary. He was shot and killed in his community and another man shot and wounded on Tuesday, April 12.

Reports from the Oracabessa Police are that about 12:00 a.m., Savoury and two other men were closing a shop when they were approached by armed men travelling in a motorcar. The men opened fire at them. Savoury received multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at hospital while the other wounded man was treated and released. The third man escaped injuries. The gunmen escaped in the area.

When asked whether the murder was a result of lotto scamming, head of the St. Mary police, superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, explained that the police could not confirm those allegations. However, she explained the police are exploring several leads in the investigation.

However, some residents of the area have asserted that Savoury’s death could be linked to lotto scamming.

One of the residents, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that men from Montego Bay had moved into the area and were living at a premises in Oracabessa. The men, he said, had fled from Montego Bay area due to their dealings in the criminal act and had been in contact with Savoury.

However, the residents alleged that things turned sour between Savoury and the men, as it was claimed money was missing from the premises. Savoury was fingered by the men for taking the money as he was the only one who had access to the premises.

The men left the area and the house they had rented, shortly after the money allegedly went missing.

The resident of the area further claimed that the men returned to the area that Tuesday night and first shot Savoury in the leg and asked him, where was the money he had stolen from them. Savoury allegedly did not corporate and was shot several times.

Another man was also shot and wounded in the incident, while another escaped injuries.Orracabessa
