The St Mary Police have charged a 47-year-old man said to be of unsound mind with the brutal murder of a 610-year-old pastor at his home on Monday, April 14.

Reports from the Gayle Police are that at about midnight Sunday, Henry was at home with his family when they smelled smoke. Checks were made, and they saw a man setting fire to a section of the house.

As the North Coast Times reported, based on police reports, Henry and a family member armed themselves with machetes and went outside to check what was going on. They were attacked by Mills, who inflicted several chop wounds to Henry’s head and feet and struck him with stones. The family member managed to escape unhurt.

The police were summoned, and on their arrival, the injured man was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mills, also called “Rum Cream,” turned himself in to the police later that day and was charged on Friday, April 18.

People who have commented on the story, on the North Coast Times Facebook page, said a man who has been described as mentally ill has been creating havoc in parts of the Gayle and wider community and has also injured people without action being taken against him.

A court date is being finalised for him.
