The stunning story of a woman at the centre of alleged trickery of a much older would-be American lover, will be back in court next month after a mention recently in the St Ann’s Bay RM court.
The St Ann woman is accused of having led on a much older American man, making him spend nearly two million dollars on their relationship only for the man to find, when he came to Jamaica, she refused intimacy.
Charged are Kimonett Johnson and Gavin Shelly. Shelly is the woman’s boy friend accused of producing a fake receipt as part of the trickery played out in Jamaica. (The Times first reported this story on our issue of January 21-27 of the North Coast Times Vol 20 #3)
Both appeared before RM Andrea Thomas in the St. Ann’s Bay RM court on Thursday, March 5. However, the case was put off. The court was told that whilst no documents in terms of statements were outstanding, the prosecution is awaiting direction on how to proceed from the office of the director of public prosecution (DPP).
The American man went to the police after the woman went away for more than a week with a car he had bought for her for nearly $1.7 million dollars and when the police got involved the woman’s boyfriend allegedly brought in the car.
INTERNET LOVE
The man from California in the US reportedly met Johnson, on a dating website and he claimed the woman promised to have a relationship with him which would eventually lead to marriage. According to information which came out in court in January, the complainant and Johnson started an online relationship after they met online in July 2014. They corresponded by email, Skype and by telephone.
The woman reportedly told the man she wanted to have a relationship with him and professed her love for him. The court heard that the woman received numerous gifts from the complainant including money to purchase a car, tablet computer, iPhone and call credit for her cell phone.
Arrangements were reportedly made for the complainant to visit Jamaica in November 2014, after a suggestion was made in one of their conversations in October, to meet in person. As part of the November visit, arrangements were reportedly made for the accused woman to rent a motor vehicle. However, the complainant instead sent money to purchase a car. An amount of US$15,000 (J$1.7 M) was reportedly sent for the purchase after pictures of a car and the value were told to American by the Jamaican woman.
PILLOW BETWEEN THEM
Johnson and the American reportedly had arguments after the accused failed to become intimate with him. The American is much older that Johnson. The woman reportedly told the man that ‘she is not ready’ and a pillow was reportedly placed between them in bed.
After the woman disappeared with the car for several days the American man went to the police.
Johnson’s boyfriend, Shelly was charged after he reportedly produced a fake receipt from a wrecking company to the accused for monies after the American was told that the vehicle had been seized.
The complainant was not in court on Thursday, March 5, as he has been excused from attending until he is needed if the case goes to trial.
