Renaldo Ingram the toast of St Ann cricket

TEAM LOSES AGAINST KINGSTON AFTER TOUGH FIGHT

St Ann’s Renaldo Ingram is the toast of the St Ann Cricket team after his heroics at the weekend when he top scored with the only century of the match against Kingston CC.

In fact, Ingram also scored most for St Ann in the second innings of the two-day Senior Cup semi-final, Saturday and Sunday, April 22 &23 at Discovery Bay.

But it was all in a losing effort against the boys from the capital.

Scores were:

  • Kingston CC 193 all out and 94 all out
  • St Ann CA 167 all out & 65 for 6

Captain Damani Sewell told the North Coast Times he was disappointed but felt the team that played the better cricket at the weekend did not win.

Ingram who came in with the score at 39 for two watched wickets tumble around him and at one stage it looked as if St Ann would be embarrassed by their first innings score. At close on the first day they were 89 for 6. Ingram lifted the team and score and carried his bat through the innings.

GLIMMER OF HOPE

Sewell said Ingram was a top order batter. “It’s good that he showed up at the semi-final.” Aside from Ingram, the only others to reach double figures in the first innings was captain Sewell and Sashane Anderson.

After Kingston returned to bat, in their second innings,  there was a glimmer of hope for the garden parish boys when St Ann  pulled them down to 44 for seven, at tea. But, as they did in the first innings, Kingston recovered and put  up 94 all out.

It was a bridge too far for St Ann.

They started a run chase but wickets fell regularly too and the match was called a draw with St Ann at 65 for 6, with Sashane Anderson on 11 not out

Top wicket takers for St Ann were Christopher Lamont with seven in the match and Damani Sewell with two in each innings.

Sewell praised Lamont who was playing for the first time for the team this season. He said the team had stuck together and did well. “As a parish, as a group we have to go back to the drawing board and be strengthened,” the St Ann  skipper said.
