“Priory is now getting some attention.” This was the response of head of the St. Ann police, Senior Superintendent Wayne Cameron to the traffic situation in Priory along the North Coast highway.
The North Coast Times has raised several issues concerning the worsening traffic mess at Priory that results in long lines on North Coast Highway, especially between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. almost every day and especially on a Fridays. In addressing several persons from the tourism, entertainment and business sectors at the St. Ann Police Division’s stakeholders meeting, SSP Cameron noted that the mentioning of the situation in The Times has caused him to act.
One of the first adjustment concerned traffic lights. “The timing of the lights has been adjusted for a shorter run coming from the Bamboo (community turn off) side, so that the line of traffic on the thoroughfare can move more smoothly,” SSP Cameron said.He also noted that the other problem in Priory was the truck drivers mostly.
PUDDING STOP
“We have been taking steps to get the truck drivers out of the town,” he added, while noting that that they can park elsewhere. Also of note was the popular sale of pudding in Priory. Many motorists stop to buy the sweet item, which often contributes to the traffic. This was agreed to by several persons in attendance, who all agreed that the pudding was good there. However, SSP Cameron noted that the selling of such items could not continue to cause congestion on the road and appealed to motorists to not block the roadway.
