SEARCH CONTINUES IN NEGRIL FOR ST ANN MAN WHO TRIED TO SAVE GIRLFRIEND
Police are to continue the search Tuesday morning, Nov. 21, for a St Ann man who jumped into deep water and attempted to save his girlfriend off the Negril, Westmoreland coast.
The man has been identified as 32-year-old Paul Norris, a fisherman of Park Avenue, St Ann’s Bay, St Ann.
It is presumed he has drowned.
Norris and his girlfriend were staying in Negril and went to a bar on the West End, Sunday morning.
They were said to have left and gone on the seaside at a cliff where they were enjoying the scenery and taking pictures.
It is reported a high wave came in and knocked the woman into the sea, several feet down from where they had been standing. Norris reportedly jumped in and was pulled under water by strong currents. Another man seeing what was happening was able to rescue the woman but Norris was believed to have been swept out to sea.
The Marine police assisted the woman and the man who saved her. The search for Norris commenced almost immediately.
Head of Zone 4 in the Westmoreland police, responsible for Negril and Little London, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shaunjaye Mitchell told The North Coast Times that the Marine Police had done a comprehensive and detailed search Sunday and Monday. He said persons from the area assisted.
DSP Mitchell said the search would resume Tuesday and the police would make a decision later
