PRESSURE ON POLICE FOR MORE DETAILS ON BELNAVIS

POSSIBLE CHANGES TO HEALTHCARE ARRANGEMENTS

BOSCOBEL, St Mary; Jan 22, 2025

As the police come under pressure to provide information on the attack that has led to the hospitalization of Mayor Michael Belnavis, consideration is being given to securing a higher level of care than is available at St Ann’s Bay Hospital, St Ann.

Rumours have sprung up around St Mary, where the attack happened Monday night, and St Ann, where Mr Belnavis is chairman of the St Ann Municipal Corporation and Councillor of Ocho Rios.

North Coast Times can confirm that police now have an official report from Mr Belnavis on the incident at his unoccupied, partly furnished apartment between Boscobel and Oracabessa in St Mary. However, the police remain tight-lipped, even after a major scene of crime conference Tuesday evening at the apartment. Several media houses and correspondents from St Ann and St Mary have been trying, without success, to establish what exactly happened since there are different reports on the incident.MAYOR BELNAVIS ADMITTED

QUESTIONS

Police have not been able to confirm:

  1. Whether any shots were fired at the scene
  2. If a man turned up at the St Ann’s Bay Hospital with a bullet wound to the chest about the same time Monday night when Mr Belnavis first sought assistance there
  3. Whether the man who attacked and chopped Mr Belnavis was known to him

However, the North Coast Times confirmed that police increased security around Belnavis at the St Ann’s Bay Hospital, Tuesday night. Following his being admitted Tuesday afternoon, after expressing discomfort, Mr Belnavis underwent several diagnostic tests, including a scan to determine if there were likely to be any adverse effects from the chop wound to his head. The North Coast Times sources said Wednesday morning that consideration was being made to provide the highest quality of care for the Mayor, including moving him if necessary.
